YES! I'm a alcoholic and have been sober since 2002! The holidays can be very hard on Non-drinkers being around all the parties and lets face it DRUNKS! It's not easy seeing someone you love act like a jerk when they drink, but it's up to the person to know their drinking limit. When I was a drunk I would say and do things I really regret! But I have the most amazing children (Gan 26, Ken 23, and Annie 20) who forgave their mother for being the "Drunk Mom". So as a gift to your children during the holidays don't let YOUR drinking be the thing your children remember the MOST about the holidays.
Happy Sober Holidays!
Hugs
Patty
Patty, you should be very proud of yourself and I am sure it is hard this time of year! That is why I have set AFTER the holidays to try to quit smoking!!!
ReplyDeleteHang in there & Happy Holidays!! :)
Chris
Hi Chris..I'm not proud of myself. I’m just thankful I realized I could NOT archive my goals in life buy being a drunk. Everyone sets limits and I had tried to stop drinking before but this time I really had the desire to change. I did not go to AA or get into a support group that’s not me! My husband Gan was my ROCK and my dream was my inspiration. I took it one day at a time and looked forward never back.
ReplyDeleteI do know there have been times when I really wanted a drink! BUT I knew the problem would still be there even after that BIG glass of red wine!
Chris’ I’ll be rooting for you after the new years! YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Patty
Thanks Patty!!! :)

Patty, What a hard thing this must of been for you. I am so proud of you and what you were able to overcome. I have step grandfather that is an alcoholic and I have several people in my family that are abusers. It is very hard to be around them when that are in such a state. But I pray for them often. I'm sure your children are your strength through these tough times. Thanks for the post. What a good thing to sit back and refleck on. I certainly don't want my children to have the memories I have of my parents at the holiday when I was little. Definetly Happy Sober Holidays!

Hi Patty~
ReplyDeleteOvercoming any addiction is tough and you should be VERY proud of yourself. You're lucky to have a supportive husband, I'm sure that made a big difference in your recovery. The holidays are tough! Being a diabetic, it's so hard to eat 100% healthy. I'm a big fan of carbs and we all know the holidays are carbs galore :+( Wishing you a healthy, happy holiday season~Kristen
Happiest of Holidays Patty! Wishing you peace, strength and continued success!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you Patty! I know it is a battle, but you are so awesome for what you have overcome!! My father in law attends meetings every single week, and has for 30? plus years. He is a mentor now and has helped countless people. Keep up the great job you're doing, it's good to know that you have so much support.
ReplyDeleteChris, I smoked for 13 years.. and quit cold turkey over 20 years ago. You can do it!!

Patty, as the adult child of an alcoholic, I have to say I truly admire your courage; recovery is a tough road, and it takes strength and determination to do what you've done. Your husband and children must be proud indeed, and rightfully so.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all a happy and healthy Christmas and New Years!
